Malonzo’s paintings explore the boundaries between realism and abstraction. He aims to capture how we perceive each other in modern life, with its fast pace, urban chaos, and profusion of electronic media. His themes concern the fragmentary nature of perception, the selectivity of memory, and the heightened awareness that exists between the artist and subject. His work often includes glitched or pixelated passages as a nod to impressionism and also as a metaphor for the impermanence of all things. He believes that portraiture is an essential tradition that enables us to recognize the dignity in all humanity.
